Supporting business-as-usual GIS with best practice methods
The Challenge
The National Capital Authority (NCA) needed ongoing GIS support to augment their existing team. A recent internal restructure changed the responsibility for GIS, placing it in a different business area requiring additional expertise to meet the GIS needs.
The Solution
The Onneer team identified a resource with extensive GIS expertise to augment the NCA team on a fortnightly basis. This involved developing a list of requested GIS tasks, consistent liaison with NCA to understand priorities which were then addressed each fortnight by the Onneer resource. This team member also, sought constant feedback on performance and task delivery ensuring the service being delivered met the NCA’s requirements.
The Results
Onneer documented workflows and provided knowledge transfer to the NCA team, helping to upskill them in common GIS workflows and the potential capabilities of their software. Over the six-month engagement, Onneer managed technical GIS workflows, documented common patterns, and established an ongoing baseline of expert recommendations. This has helped the NCA team better engage with their GIS capability and identify greater business benefits from a stricter reliance on GIS as a core business system.
